We offer a variety of classes for children, parents, and teachers. We also host classes from other organizations. Please see our class policies for complete details.
Children's Classes- Summer Schedule
We are pleased to offer a variety of enrichment classes in math, science, geography, language, and the arts. The following classes are taught by Heddi Craft, an experienced teacher and parent of three. She has been teaching classes for children for over 15 years. The title of each class is linked to a more detailed description and enrollment information. All children's classes are taught at the Educational Resource Center (224 Walnut Ave., Santa Cruz) and require preregistration and a deposit. There is a minimum of four students per class and a maximum of eight.

Our classes will continue during the summer, although our lending library will close June 30th. Classes are located in Suite A on the parking lot side of the building.

In this unique class, we will read a different picture book each week related to our theme and then expand on the book through art, music, and early literacy activities. At the end of each class, children will take home their own paperback copy of the book and a page of additional enrichment activities for their parents. Preschool Math Art4 classes: June 23 to July 14 Explore concepts in math through a variety of art activities. We will build, paint, weave, and more, all the while learning about number, pattern, and shape. Come ready to explore and have fun! |

Young Scientists: Water and Air6 classes: June 17 to July 22 Students will explore the properties of water and air. We'll create air spinners, experiment with puffs of air, reshape water, and more! |

Primary Enrichment (ages 6-8):
Math Play6 classes: June 16 to July 21 In this class, children will learn to think like a mathematician! We'll explore a variety of problems from geometry to statistics and work together to come up with solutions. This class is appropriate for both math lovers and math haters! |

Science Lab: States of Matter6 classes: June 17 to July 22 Come experiment with us! Each week we'll complete new experiements to explore the concepts of solids, liquids, and gasses. Change matter from one state to another, create and capture a gas, and more! |

Sewing Club4 classes: June 25 to July 16 Learn hand sewing and basic machine sewing in this class as we create a stuffed toy and a small quilt. A variety of fabrics and patterns will be offered. This class is great for children who have developed some fine motor skills and are eager to do more. We may also include a yarn project if time allows. |
Intermediate Enrichment (ages 9-12):
Become a Problem Solving Genius6 classes: June 16 to July 21 Whether you are a math lover or a math hater, you will find a new way to look at math in this active, hands on class. Each week we'll explore a variety of brain teasers and learn a new problem solving strategy. |

Finding Your Passions4 classes: August 9 to August 30 This is a class designed to help older children learn about themselves and their interests. We'll complete a variety of inventories designed to discover what we know about ourselves, how we learn, and what we love to do. We'll use this information to imagine possible futures for ourselves and begin discovering what our passions are. |

Homeschooling 101 Tuesday, July 13th, 20th, and 27th, 6:30-8:30pm (6 hours total) Especially for new homeschoolers, this workshop will give you all the tools you need to get started on your homeschooling journey. We'll cover the legal ways to homeschool, detail a variety of homeschooling styles, discover your child’s learning style, write goals for homeschooling, and learn how to choose appropriate curriculum for homeschooling. Plenty of time will be given to discuss the needs of individual families and participants will leave with a notebook of resources. The three week series would also be appropriate for those wishing to give their homeschooling experience a “tune up.” Cost: $70/members, $75/non-members. |

The Resource Center has a monthly support group for homeschooling parents.
Monthly Homeschooling Parent Support Group
Meet with other homeschooling parents on the second Monday of the month to discuss joys and challenges in a supportive environment. This free support group takes place on the second Monday of every month from 7-9pm. (No pre-registration required.) Our July meeting will be in Suite A on the parking lot side of the building.

Class Policies for the Educational Resource Center
Please note: Hosted classes have their own policies set by the instructor or organization presenting the class.
- Registration is due one week prior to the first class. All classes and workshops require an enrollment of four students minimum.
- All children's classes require a $20 deposit when enrolling to be paid one week prior to the start of class. This deposit is refundable prior to the first day of class if you contact the Educational Resource Center. However, we cannot refund your deposit after the first class day has occurred. Deposits will also be refunded if minimum registration is not met.
- The balance on children's classes and the entire fee for parent workshops is due at the beginning of the first class.
- If you or your child is too sick to be comfortable in class or might spread a contagious illness, please stay at home.
- We currently do not offer make-ups for classes. If you must miss a class, please ask us about a coupon for discounted enrollment on future classes.
- Work scholarships are available. Please contact Heddi Craft for details.
- Homeschoolers with Ocean Grove Charter School: We are currently not approved as a vendor for Ocean Grove. Please ask your ES for more details.
